CasaTempo maintains a monthly Typewriter Scholarship as part of its commitment to writing as a lived practice.

Each month, one fully functional typewriter is placed with a writer whose work and intention align with the spirit of the machine — someone who values the act of writing and will put the typewriter to use. The typewriter is provided at no cost, with shipping included.

Typewriters are tools for writing. They are meant to be used, not admired from a distance. This scholarship exists to make them accessible to those who care deeply about the craft, regardless of circumstance.

Who can apply?

The scholarship is open to individuals working on any form of written project — including books, plays, scripts, essays, or other creative work — where a typewriter will be used as a primary or meaningful part of the process.

How to participate?

Applicants are invited to submit a short writing sample, along with a brief note explaining why they wish to work with a typewriter and how they intend to use it in their current project. Submissions should be sent by email to casatempo25 [at] gmail [dot] com. There is no required format, length, or genre.

One recipient is selected each month. The recipient will be notified privately and announced on the first day of the following month.

This scholarship is not intended as charity. It is a way of placing well-made tools into the hands of people who will use them — and of keeping the practice of writing tangible, present, and alive.
