This Hermes 3000 dates to 1979, representing the final evolution of one of the world’s most celebrated typewriter lines. Manufactured in Hungary during the late-era production run by Paillard S.A., this model features the sleek, bright white plastic body that characterized the design's shift toward late-1970s modernism. While lighter and more streamlined than its green metal predecessors, it retains the legendary mechanical core, precise engineering, and remarkably smooth typing experience that made the Hermes 3000 famous among writers and collectors alike. Equipped with classic features like touch control and a versatile tabulator system, this late-edition Hermes 3000 bridges mid-century mechanical craftsmanship with crisp, late-20th-century aesthetic style.
This machine features a QWERTY keyboard layout (Spanish), complete with keys for "ñ", and four accent marks — acute (´), grave (`), diaeresis (¨), and circumflex (^). These allow you to type accented characters (such as: á, è, ü, â). Please see the keyboard photo for other special characters.
The Hermes Epoca is Paillard’s modern, sans-serif take on traditional typewriter typography, designed to give documents a sleek, contemporary edge over standard office serifs. Defined by its smooth, rounded-circular letterforms and uniform line weights, Epoca swaps rigid industrial angles for soft, open curves, giving the printed page a clean, friendly, and intentionally designed look reminiscent of mid-century Swiss graphic design. Because it is significantly rarer than standard fonts, finding a Hermes machine equipped with Epoca makes it an absolute favorite among collectors, typographers, and designers alike.
This machine is in excellent cosmetic condition, showing some very minor scuff marks around the corners. Please review the listing photos carefully. All keys, margins, tabulator, and ribbon functions operate properly. Detailed cleaning and adjustments have been performed to ensure a smooth and responsive typing experience. Additionally, the machine has been upgraded with a professionally recovered platen with brand-new rubber (a €150–€200 value), ensuring optimal print quality, noise reduction, and proper paper grip for years to come. Its extended platen length allows you to easily insert oversized paper, including A4 sheets in landscape orientation. The carrying case is fully functional, with marks consistent with age. A new ribbon has been installed, and fresh ribbons can be purchased separately.
