The original Italian Olivetti Lettera 22 is one of the most celebrated typewriters in history. Designed in 1950 by Marcello Nizzoli and engineered by Giuseppe Beccio in Ivrea, Italy, it defined portable writing for a generation. Featuring a built-in tabulator, light aluminum casing, and crisp mechanical action, this MoMA-exhibited design remains an enduring symbol of Italian industrial excellence.
This machine features a standard QWERTY (English) keyboard layout, complete with @, &, and a full set of fraction keys. Please review the photos of the keyboard for additional special characters and symbols.
The classic Olivetti Elite is a timeless serif typeface with elegant, highly readable letterforms. It produces crisp, refined text that is perfect for letters, journals, and everyday writing.
This typewriter is in average cosmetic condition, showing noticeable, age-appropriate wear—mainly minor surface paint deterioration and scratch marks along the corners and edges (please review the listing photos carefully). Mechanically, it is fully functional: all keys, margins, line spacing, and ribbon functions operate properly after basic cleaning and adjustments for a smooth, responsive typing experience. It comes ready to write with a freshly installed ribbon on the original metal spools, extra replacement ribbons can be purchased separately, and a carrying bag (showing wear consistent with age) is available as an add-on.
