This Olivetti Lettera DL was made in Spain around 1970 — an elegant De Luxe restyling by Ettore Sottsass, built on the beloved Lettera 32 platform. Compact, reliable, and featuring more modern, boxy lines than the Lettera 32, it continues the same design lineage favored by countless writers. Francis Ford Coppola, for example, used this model while working on The Godfather film.
This machine features a QWERTY (Spanish) keyboard layout, complete with keys for "ñ", "ç", and four accent marks — acute (´), grave (`), diaeresis (¨), and circumflex (^). These allow you to type accented characters such as á, è, ü, and â. Please see the keyboard photo for other special characters.
This machine is fitted with RaRo Cubic (Ro 85) type slugs, producing a rare geometric typeface crafted by the German foundry Ransmayer & Rodrian. Not to be confused with the similarly modern Quadrato (meaning “cubic” in Italian) typeface, which features a shorter x-height, the Cubic font was favored throughout the mid-century era for its clean, modernistic lines and balanced proportions.
This typewriter is in very good cosmetic condition as shown in the photos. Please pay close attention to the photos. All keys, margins, line spacing, and ribbon functions operate properly. Basic cleaning and adjustments have been performed to ensure a smooth and responsive typing experience. A carrying bag, showing wear consistent with age, is available as an add-on for this typewriter. A new ribbon has been installed on the original metal spools, and fresh ribbons can be purchased separately.
