The Olympia SM4 is the refined successor to the legendary SM3, elevating mid-century German typewriter engineering to its peak. Retaining the tank-like build quality, rich green finish, and exceptionally smooth, fluid typing action that made the SM3 an icon, the SM4 introduces key design and functional enhancements. Most notable among these upgrades is a more streamlined, user-friendly tabulator system, featuring convenient clear and set keys positioned directly adjacent to the spacebar for seamless document formatting. Classic, precise, and effortlessly reliable, the SM4 seamlessly blends robust German craftsmanship with timeless mid-century elegance.
This machine features a standard QWERTY (English) keyboard layout, complete with @, &, and a full set of fraction keys. Please review the photos of the keyboard for additional special characters and symbols.
Olympia Elite features sharp, well-defined letterforms and excellent readability. Clean and dependable, it produces crisp, professional-looking text that is perfect for letters, journals, and everyday writing.
This machine is in good cosmetic condition, with visible wear on the body, especially around the front corners. One minor note is the missing transparent plastic alignment indicator (card holder) in front of the platen, which does not affect typing functionality at all. Please review the listing photos carefully for a full look at its condition. All keys, margins, line spacing, and ribbon functions operate properly. Detailed cleaning and adjustments have been performed to ensure a smooth and responsive typing experience. The original carrying case shows age-appropriate signs of wear and remains fully functional, as shown in the last photo. A new ribbon has been installed, and additional fresh ribbons can be purchased separately.
