Crafted in Western Germany with uncompromising precision, the Olympia SM8 represents the pinnacle of mid-century typewriter engineering. Known as a true "writer's workhorse," this mid-sized portable blends the rock-solid durability of a desktop machine with a beautifully balanced, sculpted design. Renowned for its buttery-smooth touch, lightning-fast segment shift, and satisfyingly crisp feedback, the SM8 was built for serious authors, journalists, and typists who demanded effortless performance over long writing sessions. With its elegant two-tone casing and virtually indestructible craftsmanship, it remains an iconic masterpiece of West German utility and timeless style.

This machine has an AZERTY (French) layout, including keys for "è", "é", "ç", "à", "ù" and two accent marks — diaeresis (¨) and circumflex (^). You can type accented characters such as ü and â. Please check the keyboard photos for additional special symbols.

Olympia Elite features sharp, well-defined letterforms and excellent readability. Clean and dependable, it produces crisp, professional-looking text that is perfect for letters, journals, and everyday writing.

This machine is in very good cosmetic condition, showing some minor marks around the body, particularly under the carriage return lever and around the corners in the back. Please review the photos carefully. All keys, margins, line spacing, and ribbon functions operate properly following a detailed cleaning and adjustment for a smooth, responsive typing experience. It comes ready to write with a freshly installed ribbon, and extra replacement ribbons are available for purchase separately. The fully functional original carrying case shows age-appropriate signs of wear and is included.
