This Olympia SF (SuperFlat) was made in Western Germany around 1963 — an ultra-slim portable typewriter designed for maximum portability without sacrificing Olympia’s renowned precision. Its low-profile metal body, clean modernist lines, and exceptionally crisp typing action make it one of the most refined travel machines of its era. Lightweight yet mechanically robust, the SF embodies the best of German engineering in a compact, elegant form.
This machine features a standard QWERTY (English) keyboard layout, complete with @, *, and some f fraction keys. Please review the photos of the keyboard for additional special characters and symbols.
This typewriter is fitted with a rare cursive (script) typeface, designed to imitate natural handwriting rather than formal print. The letters are gently slanted with flowing, connected forms, giving the text a personal and expressive character. Compared to standard Roman typefaces, this cursive font feels softer and more informal, making it especially well suited for letters, journals, and creative writing. Its light, consistent strokes produce a graceful handwritten appearance that is uncommon on Olympia machines, adding to its collectibility and charm.
This typewriter is in good cosmetic condition, with a small scratch mark under the carriage return lever. Please pay close attention to the listing photos. Mechanically, it is fully functional: all keys, margins, line spacing, and ribbon functions operate properly after basic cleaning and adjustments for a smooth, responsive typing experience. It comes ready to write with a freshly installed ribbon on the original metal spools, extra replacement ribbons can be purchased separately, and a carrying bag (showing wear consistent with age) is available as an add-on.
