This Hermes Baby dates to 1966, during the height of the model’s popularity. Finished in a classic seafoam green tone, it reflects the refined design and precise engineering that made the Hermes Baby a favorite among writers and journalists. Lightweight, compact, and beautifully made, it was designed as a true travel companion, offering smooth, reliable typing in a timeless portable form.
This specific machine carries an extraordinary history: equipped with a rare multilingual QWERTZ layout (with five dead-key accent marks), it belonged to a highly cultured polyglot who spoke seven languages. She acquired the typewriter during her career on international cruise ships, using it as her trusty writing instrument while working and living around the world. A genuinely well-traveled piece of history, this typewriter is a testament to Hermes ultra-portables crafted for a truly worldly life.
This machine features a rare multilingual QWERTZ layout, including dedicated keys for "é" and "ç", along with five dead-key accent marks—grave (`), acute (´), circumflex (^), diaeresis/umlaut (¨), and a dual-position tilde (~) for both upper and lowercase letters. This comprehensive accent setup allows you to type effortlessly in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and English, producing characters such as ã, ñ, â, à, á, and ü. Please check the keyboard photos for additional special symbols and details.
Hermes Pica features clean, well-balanced letterforms and exceptional readability. Crisp and versatile, it produces clear, professional-looking text that is equally suited to letters, journals, and everyday writing.
This typewriter is in average cosmetic condition, with visible wear and signs of use on the exterior. Please review the photos carefully. All keys, margins, line spacing, and ribbon mechanisms are fully functional. Basic cleaning and adjustments have been performed to ensure a smooth typing experience. The original carrying case, showing wear consistent with its age, is included. A new ribbon comes pre-installed, and additional ribbons are available for separate purchase.
