About this vase:
This vintage vase is marked “203-22 W. Germany”, a numbering system commonly used by West German pottery manufacturers during the 1960s–1970s. Model 203-22 refers to the factory shape number (203) and its height (22 cm). The form is cylindrical and architectural, with a recessed neck that gives the piece a clean, modernist silhouette.

The glaze features a striking horizontal transition: a deep matte black base rising into layered earth tones of amber, brown, and textured cream near the shoulder. The organic, almost volcanic glaze break between the dark and lighter sections is characteristic of late 1960s–1970s West German stoneware. While the piece is not factory-marked with a brand name, the form and glaze characteristics are consistent with production commonly attributed to Scheurich Keramik, one of the most prolific West German pottery manufacturers of the post-war era. Similar 203 forms appear in Scheurich catalogs from the late 1960s.

As with many West German ceramics, exact factory attribution without a name stamp cannot be guaranteed. The piece is therefore described as West German pottery, attributed to Scheurich, based on form, numbering convention, and glaze style.

Condition:
This vase is in excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks observed. The glaze is intact and vibrant, with natural variations and textural effects from the original firing process. Light wear is present on the base consistent with age. Please review the photos carefully for details. Noticeable imperfections, if any, are shown in the listing images.

Disclaimer:
This is a vintage item. Minor signs of age or light surface wear may remain despite careful inspection. Variations in the glaze, including tonal shifts, texture, or small irregularities, are part of the original firing process and design, characteristic of mid-century West German stoneware. These are not considered defects but part of the piece’s authentic production.
