About this vase: This vintage vase is marked “203-22 W. Germany”, a numbering system commonly used by West German pottery manufacturers during the 1960s–1970s. Model 203-22 refers to the factory shape number (203) and its height (22 cm). The form is cylindrical and architectural, with a recessed neck that gives the piece a clean, modernist silhouette.
The glaze features a striking horizontal transition: a deep matte black base rising into layered earth tones of amber, brown, and textured cream near the shoulder. The organic, almost volcanic glaze break between the dark and lighter sections is characteristic of late 1960s–1970s West German stoneware. While the piece is not factory-marked with a brand name, the form and glaze characteristics are consistent with production commonly attributed to Scheurich Keramik, one of the most prolific West German pottery manufacturers of the post-war era.
