This is a vintage Wittner mechanical metronome produced in West Germany during the 1980s, a period when Wittner was recognized worldwide for its precision and reliability. Following the classic Maëlzel pyramid form, it combines traditional design with late twentieth century German engineering. The wind up mechanical movement delivers a steady, consistent tempo without the need for batteries; simply turn the key and let the rhythm begin. Marked “Made in W. Germany,” it carries the quiet historical context of late Cold War era European craftsmanship. Finished in a warm mahogany or walnut tone, it functions equally well as a dependable studio tool and a timeless decorative object.

Mechanically, the piece performs remarkably well. The internal clockwork mechanism operates smoothly, and the mainspring retains strong, robust tension. When tested at 208 BPM, a single full winding runs for approximately 27.5 minutes (equivalent to roughly 95 minutes of continuous operation at 60 BPM) with a steady, reliable beat. The case has been lightly cleaned and conditioned with a thin layer of protective wood wax to nourish and preserve the vintage finish.
