This is a vintage Wittner mechanical metronome produced in West Germany during the 1980s, a period when Wittner was recognized worldwide for its precision and reliability. Following the classic Maëlzel pyramid form, it combines traditional design with late twentieth century German engineering. The wind up mechanical movement delivers a steady, consistent tempo without the need for batteries; simply turn the key and let the rhythm begin. Marked “Made in W. Germany,” it carries the quiet historical context of late Cold War era European craftsmanship. Finished in a warm mahogany or walnut tone, it functions equally well as a dependable studio tool and a timeless decorative object.
This metronome is in good cosmetic condition, showing a few small scratches around the wooden panels and a visible wear on one of the lower corners in the back. Please review the photos carefully for details. The wind-up mechanism is fully functional. When tested at 208 BPM, a single winding lasts approximately 25 minutes. Basic cleaning has been completed, and a thin protective layer of wax has been applied to help nourish and preserve the finish.
When compared to modern electronic metronomes, it is not laboratory-precise, but it keeps time very closely and operates as expected for a vintage mechanical instrument. Minor variation is normal and part of the character of traditional wind-up metronomes. Noticeable defects are shown in the listing images. Please note that this is a vintage item, and minor signs of age or use may remain despite careful inspection.
