This vintage Wittner mechanical metronome was produced in West Germany during the 1980s, a period when Wittner was recognized worldwide for its precision and reliability. Following the classic Mälzel pyramid form, it combines traditional design with late-twentieth-century German engineering. The wind-up mechanical movement delivers a steady tempo without batteries; simply turn the key and let the rhythm begin. Marked "Made in W.-Germany," it carries the quiet historical context of late Cold War-era European craftsmanship. Finished in a sleek black casing with a gold-toned faceplate and emblem, it functions equally well as a dependable studio tool and a timeless decorative object.
This metronome is in very good cosmetic condition, showing a few small marks around the wooden panels. Please review the photos carefully for details. The wind-up mechanism is fully functional; when tested at 208 BPM, a single full winding lasts approximately 27 minutes. Based on the mechanical beat count of the mainspring, a single winding will provide roughly 93 minutes of continuous operation at a slower 60 BPM tempo. Basic cleaning has been completed, and a thin protective layer of wax has been applied to help nourish and preserve the finish.
When compared to modern electronic metronomes, it is not laboratory-precise, but it keeps time very closely and operates as expected for a vintage mechanical instrument. Minor variation is normal and part of the character of traditional wind-up metronomes. Noticeable defects are shown in the listing images. Please note that this is a vintage item, and minor signs of age or use may remain despite careful inspection.
