This is a vintage Wittner mechanical metronome produced in Germany during the 1950s, a golden era when Wittner’s reputation for precision and reliability was firmly established worldwide. Following the classic Maëlzel pyramid form, it beautifully combines traditional design with mid-century German engineering. In a subtle departure from standard sharp-edged models, the lower corners of the casing are elegantly curved and tapered, lending it a softer, more refined silhouette. The wind-up mechanical movement delivers a steady, consistent tempo without the need for batteries; simply turn the winding key and let the rhythm begin. Finished in a striking, elegant black tone, it functions equally well as a dependable studio tool and a timeless decorative object.
This metronome is in very good cosmetic condition, showing a few small scratches around the wooden casing. Please review the photos carefully for details. The wind-up mechanism is fully functional. When tested at 208 BPM, a single winding lasts approximately 16 minutes (equivalent to 55 minutes at 60 BPM). Basic cleaning has been completed, and a thin protective layer of wax has been applied to help nourish and preserve the finish.
When compared to modern electronic metronomes, it is not laboratory-precise, but it keeps time very closely and operates as expected for a vintage mechanical instrument. Minor variation is normal and part of the character of traditional wind-up metronomes. Noticeable defects are shown in the listing images. Please note that this is a vintage item, and minor signs of age or use may remain despite careful inspection.
