About this pitcher:
This is a vintage Scheurich Keramik 401-28 pitcher vase, produced in West Germany during the height of the Mid-Century Modern ceramics movement. Scheurich was one of the most prolific and influential pottery manufacturers of the post-war era, known for its bold glazes, sculptural forms, and high-quality stoneware production.

Model 401-28 refers to the factory shape number (401) and its height (28 cm). The form is tall and architectural, with a gently flared rim and sculptural side handle that gives it both functional and decorative presence. The glaze features a warm earth-tone gradient, transitioning from deep amber at the base to creamy beige and darker volcanic accents near the neck, characteristics often associated with the West German “Fat Lava” aesthetic of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Scheurich pieces were widely exported and remain highly collectible today, appreciated for their craftsmanship and strong representation of European mid-century ceramic design.

Condition:
This pitcher is in excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks observed. The glaze is intact and vibrant, with natural variations and textural effects from the original firing process. Light wear is present on the base consistent with age. Please review the photos carefully for details. Noticeable imperfections, if any, are shown in the listing images.

Disclaimer:
This is a vintage item. Minor signs of age or light surface wear may remain despite careful inspection. Variations in the glaze, including tonal shifts, texture, or small irregularities, are part of the original firing process and design, characteristic of mid-century West German stoneware. These are not considered defects but part of the piece’s authentic production.
