This is a vintage Wittner mechanical metronome produced in West Germany during the 1980s, a period when Wittner was recognized worldwide for its precision and reliability. Following the classic Mälzel pyramid form, it combines traditional design with late-twentieth-century German engineering. This model includes a built-in bell mechanism with a pull-knob selector on the side, allowing you to set accent chimes for distinct time signatures. The wind-up mechanical movement delivers a steady, consistent tempo without the need for batteries; simply turn the key and let the rhythm begin. Finished in a warm, natural teak/walnut wood tone with its original protective front cover and diamond tuning fork emblem, it functions equally well as a dependable studio tool and a timeless decorative accent.
This metronome is in excellent cosmetic condition, showing light signs of age consistent with normal use. Please review the photos carefully for details. Mechanically, the piece is fully functional. The internal clockwork mechanism operates smoothly, and the mainspring retains strong tension. When tested at 208 BPM, a single full winding runs for approximately 26.5 minutes (equivalent to roughly 92 minutes of continuous operation at 60 BPM) with a steady, reliable beat. Basic cleaning has been completed, and a thin protective layer of wax has been applied to nourish and preserve the wood finish.
When compared to modern electronic metronomes, it is not laboratory-precise, but it keeps time very closely and operates as expected for a vintage mechanical instrument. Minor variation is normal and part of the character of traditional wind-up metronomes. Noticeable defects are shown in the listing images.
